Google is a search company. Samsung Electronics is a semiconductor company, and Hyundai Motor is an automobile company. Each company has its own area of expertise, and it's natural for them to focus on their strengths. But why does Naver, despite being a search engine, leave something to be desired in its search functionality?
While recently developing durumis, I put a lot of effort into SEO (Search Engine Optimization). I researched various information and conducted experiments. As a result, I realized that Google is genuinely dedicated to search. It effectively retrieves registered information and reflects it well in search results. Of course, simply retrieving information doesn't guarantee top ranking, but at least you can expect results proportionate to your efforts.
However, Naver and Bing were different. While they retrieved information, it often wasn't reflected properly. I even suspected that they might not be reflecting it at all. Naver, in particular, is suspected of prioritizing its own content, such as internal cafes, blogs, and news, in search results.
Google offers various services and APIs for search registration. This makes registration easy and allows for easy optimization of each page. In truth, the search technology itself isn't significantly different across all search engines. However, when I checked Naver Search Console, I found that many pages still aren't being indexed at all.
Not only durumis, but other blog services like Velog and Medium also tend not to be well-ranked in Naver search. If Naver pays a little more attention to this aspect, wouldn't more users be able to access a wider range of information?
Naver holds an overwhelming market share in the domestic search market. This means that many people obtain information through Naver. However, if Naver's search results are biased towards its own content, users miss out on opportunities to access diverse information.
Of course, Naver might have its reasons for prioritizing its own content. However, we shouldn't forget that the essence of a search engine lies in 'information retrieval'. Providing users with the information they want, accurately and quickly, is the most crucial role of a search engine.
While cheering for Naver's development, I hope that they will pay more attention to external content in the future. I hope that they will create an environment where diverse information can be searched fairly and provide users with a better search experience.
